Good Governance Award to efficient Government Servants.

A 'Good Governance Award', the first of its kind in the country, was set up by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha on Saturday, for state government staff who will make a ‘real difference’ in the delivery of a host of services and the reaching of welfare schemes to the people.

Irrespective of whether a ‘Lokayukta’ will become reality of not in Tamil Nadu, in the wake of the Centre tabling the Lokpal Bill in Parliament which also enables lokayuktas as state level ombudsmen against administrative corruption, Jayalalitha sprung this surprise after paying homage at the ‘Samadhi’ of her political mentor, MGR, on his death anniversary. Incidentally, Saturday also happens to be the death anniversary of the late Dravidian leader Periyar.

High Court comes to rescue of TamilNadu govt. employee

Madras High Court has held as ‘illegal’ the termination of services of a government employee appointed on compassionate basis on the ground that his elder brother was employed at the time of their father's death.

A bench comprising Justices Elipe Dharma Rao and R. Subbiah confirmed a single Judge's order quashing the termination of the services of S. Raghunathan nearly 12 years after he was appointed in government service.

Raghunathan was appointed as a Junior Assistant on January 5, 1996 on compassionate grounds in view of the death of his father, a Tahsildar in Salem district, in May 1988. However, in November 2007 the Revenue Secretary removed him from service on the ground that his elder brother was employed in a private company at the time of his father's death.

Tamil Nadu Government employees to get 7% hike in Dearness allowance

Jaya showers DA gift on govt staff

Whoever said the AIADMK was unfriendly towards government employees would have to eat their words.

In a significant move that would belie the suggestion of the DMK-led Opposition that the AIADMK was anti-employees (government), chief minister J. Jayalalithaa on Monday announced 7 per cent dearness allowance (DA) on a par with Central government employees with retrospective effect from July 1.

It may not be overstatement to call it a bonus for the government employees during this festival season as the government had ordered the immediate disbursal of the arrears due to the employees owing to the retrospective implementation of the hike (from July 1) in DA,

With chief minister J. Jayalalithaa giving her nod for increasing the dearness allowance (DA) to state government employees, following the Centre’s announcement hiking DA for its five million employees across the country, 13 lakh state government employees in Tamil Nadu are keenly awaiting the election commission of India’s (ECI’s) approval permitting TN to announce the hike.

The DA for government employees might increase from 51 per cent to 58 per cent, on the lines of Central government employees, which would help them take home an additional Rs 400 to Rs 2,500 per month.
