Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW)-December, 2016

The All-India CPI-IW for December, 2016 by 2 points and stood 275 (two hundred and seventy five). On 1-month percentage change, it decreased by (-) 0.72 per cent November and December, 2016 when compared with the decease of (-) 0.37 per cent between the same two months a year ago.

The maximum downward pressure to the change in current index came from Food group conuibuting (-) 2.74 percentage points to the total change. At item level, Arhar Dal, Gram Dal, Masur Dal, Urd Dal, Groundnut Oil, Muslard Oil, Chillies Green, Ginzer, Brinjal, Cabbage, Carrot, Cauliflower, French Beans, Gourd, Green Coriander Leaves, Methi, Palak, Peas, Potato, Radish, Tomato, Banana, Lemon, etc. are responsible for the decrease in index. However, this decrease checked by Rice, Wheal, Wheat Alta, Coconut OiL Fish Fresh, Goat Meat, Milk Snack Saltish, Cooking Gas, ESI Premium Contribution, Petrol, Flowe/Flower Garlands, Toilet Soap, etc., putting upward on the index.

The year-on-year inflation measured by monthly CPI-IW stood at 2.23 per cent for December, 2016 as compared to 2.59 per cent for the pervious month and 6.32 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year. Similarly, the Food inflation stood at 0.67 per cent against 1.66 per cent of the previous month and 7.94 per cent during the corresponding month or the previous year.

At centre level, Rourkela reported the maximum decrease or 10 points followed by Vadodara (9 points), Nagpur and Lucknow (8 points each) and Amritsar, Varanasi and Monger Jamalpur (6 points each). Among others, 5 points decrease was observed in 7 centres, 4 points in 12 centres, 3 points in 9 centres, 2 points in 15 centres and 1 point in 10 centres. On the contrary, Quilon recorded maximum increase of 6 points followed by Ernakulam and Mundakkayam (3 points each). Among others, 2 points increase was observed in 4 centres and 1 point in 4 centres. Rest or the 7 centres indices remained stationary.

The indices or centres are above All-India Index and other 43 centres indices are below national average. The index or Vishakhapathnam centre remained at par with All-India Index. The next or CPI-IW fer the month of January, 2017 will be released on Tuesday, 28th February, 2017. The same will also be available on the office website www.labourbureaunew.gov.in

Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) — November, 2016

The All-India CPI-IW for November, 2016 decreased by 1 point and stood at 277 (two hundred and seventy seven). On 1-month percentage change, it decreased by (-) 0.36 per cent between October and November, 2016 when compared with the increase of (+) 0.37 per cent between the same two months a year ago.

The maximum downward pressure to the change in current index came from Food group contributing (-) 1.33 percentage points to the total change. At item level, Rice, Arhar Dal, Moong Dal, Urd Dal, Groundnut Oil, Chillies Green, Banana, Brinjal, Cabbage, Cauliflower, French Beans, Gourd, Green Coriander Leaves, Lady’s Finger, Methi, Palak, Potato, Radish, Tomato, etc. are responsible for the decrease in index. However, this decrease was checked by Wheat, Wheat Atta, Gram Dal, Goat Meat, Tea (Readymade), Cooking Gas, Electricity Charges, Petrol, Toilet Soap, etc., putting upward pressure on the index.

The year-on-year inflation measured by monthly CPI-IW stood at 2.59 per cent for November, 2016 as compared to 3.35 per cent for the previous month and 6.72 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year. Similarly, the Food inflation stood at 1.66 per cent against 2.99 per cent of the previous month and 7.86 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year.

At centre level, Salem reported the maximum decrease of 10 points followed by Bokaro (9 points), Raniganj and Kolkata (6 points each) and Ahmedabad (5 points). Among others, 4 points decrease was observed in 2 centres, 3 points in 8 centres, 2 points in 8 centres and 1 point in 15 centres. On the contrary, Jaipur recorded a maximum increase of 6 points followed by Rourkela and Srinagar (3 points each). Among others, 2 points increase was observed in 5 centres and 1 point in 7 centres. Rest of the 25 centres’ indices remained stationary.

The indices of 35 centres are above All-India Index and other 40 centres’ indices are below national average. The index of Jabalpur, Vishakhapathnam and Ludhiana centres remained at par with All-India Index.

Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) — April, 2016

The All-India CPI-IW for April, 2016 increased by 3 points and pegged at 271 (two hundred and seventy one). On 1-month percentage change, it increased by (+) 1.12 per cent between March, 2016 and April, 2016 when compared with the increase of (+) 0.79 per cent between the same two months a year ago.

The maximum upward pressure to the change in current index came from Food group contributing (+) 2.65 percentage points to the total change. At item level, Wheat, Arhar Dal, Gram Dal, Masur Dal, Urd Dal, Groundnut Oil, Poultry (Chicken), Milk, Chillies Dry, Chillies Green, Potato, Tomato, Seasonal Vegetables and Fruits. Tea (Readymade), Sugar, Doctors’ Fee, Petrol, Tailoring Charges, etc. are responsible for the increase in index. However, this increase was checked by Rice, Fish Fresh, Garlic, Onion, Soft Coke, Flower/Flower Garlands, etc., putting downward pressure on the index.

The year-on-year inflation measured by monthly CPI-IW stood at 5.86 per cent for April, 2016 as compared to 5.51 per cent for the previous month and 5.79 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year. Similarly, the Food inflation stood at 7.55 per cent against 6.16 per cent of the previous month and 5.30 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year.

At centre level, Rourkela reported the maximum increase of 10 points followed by Goa (8 points), Angul-Talcher, Rangapara-Tezpur, Warrangai, Sholapur and Varanasi (7 points each). Among others, 6 points increase was observed in 3 centres, 5 points in 10 centres, 4 points in 15 centres, 3 points in 11 centres, 2 points in 11 centres and 1 point in 11 centres. On the contrary, Quilon recorded a maximum decrease of 5 points followed by Madurai (3 points), Salem and Rajkot (2 points each) and Tiruchirapally and Ghaziabad (1 point each). Rest of the 4 centres’ indices remained stationary.

The indices of 35 centres are above All-India Index and other 41 centres’ indices are below national average. The indices of Vishakhapatnam and Ludhiana centres remained at par with All-India Index.

Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) – March, 2016

The All-India CPI-IW for March, 2016 increased by 1 point and pegged at 268 (two hundred and sixty eight). On 1-month percentage change, it increased by (+) 0.37 per cent between February, 2016 and March, 2016 when compared with the increase of (+) 0.40 per cent between the same two months a year ago.

The maximum upward pressure to the change in current index came From Food group contributing, (+) 0.37 percentage points to the total change. At item level. Wheat and Wheat Atta, Fish Fresh, Goat Meat, Poultry (Chicken), Milk, Chillies Dry. Chillies Green, Potato, Seasonal Green Vegetables and Fruit items, Tea (Readymade). Sugar, Private Tuition Fee, etc. are responsible for the increase in index. However, this increase was checked by Rice, Arhar Dal. Mustard Oil, Eggs (Hen), Garlic. Onion. Tomato, Supari. Petrol, Flower/Flower Garlands, etc.. putting downward pressure on the index.

The year-on-year inflation measured by monthly CPI-IW stood at 5.51 per cent for March, 2016 as compared to 5.53 per cent for the previous month and 6.28 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year. Similarly, the Food inflation stood at 6.16 per cent against 6.18 per cent of the previous month and 6.98 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year.

At centre level, Munger-Jamalpur reported the maximum increase of 10 points followed by Raniganj (9 points) and Ludhiana (7 points). Among others, 5 points increase was observed in 4 centres, 3 points in another 9 centres, 2 points in 9 centres and I point in 14 centres. On the contrary, Mundakkayam recorded a maximum decrease of 6 points followed by Ernakulam and Puducherry (5 points each). Tiruchirapally and Warrangal (4 points each). Among others, 3 points decrease was observed in 2 centres, 2 points in 9 centres and 1 point in another 9 centres. Rest of the 14 centres’ indices remained stationary.

The indices of 33 centres are above All-India Index and other 43 centres indices are below national average. The indices of Bokaro and Varanasi centres remained at par with All-India Index.

Since then every census has thrown useful data on workers in different industries and occupations every 10 years. The bureau also releases official information, economic indicators like Consumer Price Index Numbers for Industrial, Agricultural and Rural Labourers; wage rate indices and data on industrial relations etc. that are followed by a number of government departments.
