Concession in Train Tickets to Unemployed Youth 

Railways grant full concession in second class and 50% concession in sleeper class in the basic fares of Mail/Express trains to unemployed youths up to 35 years to appear in interviews for selection to Central/State Government jobs. Besides above, 50% concession in the basic fares of Mail/express trains in Second and sleeper class is also admissible to unemployed youths appearing in interview for selection to other public sector organisations.

Advance Train Ticket Reservation period from 60 days to 120 days will come into effect from 1-4-2015

Sub: Time limit for Advance Reservations.

It has been decided to increase the advance reservation period from 60 days to 120 days (excluding the date of journey) w.e.f. 01.04.2015. CRIS will make necessary changes in the software for this purpose under intimation to all Zonal Railways as well as Board’s office.

2. There will be no change in case of certain day time Express Trains like Taj Express, Gomti Express, special trains, etc. where lower time limits for advance reservations are at present in force. There will also be no change in case of the limit of 360 days for foreign tourists.

3. Board desire that the above change may be given wide publicity well in advance of its implementation. Suitable instructions to all concerned may be issued to ensure smooth change-over to the new time limit.

Tatkal tickets on dynamic pricing system, fares to go up

In a move that could be described as "festival dampener", the rates of the tatkal tickets will go up with the Railways deciding to sell 50 per cent of the quota tickets using dynamic fare system.

"It has been decided that 50 per cent of the existing tatkal quota ticket shall be sold under dynamic fare scheme," said a senior Railway Ministry official.

After booking of the first 50 per cent of the tatkal quota under the present tatkal scheme, the subsequent 50 per cent of the tatkal quota, defined as premium tatkal quota shall be issued on dynamic pricing which means more the demand, more the price.

The 'Premium Tatkal Ticket scheme' became operational in 80 trains from October 1 and is available only for online bookings.

Advance Booking of Reserved Train Tickets 

The advance reservation period for booking reserved accommodation is 60 days excluding the day of journey. In case of certain day time express trains, shorter time limits are prescribed. 

In case of Tatkal tickets, the booking opens at 1000 hours on the previous day of journey from the train originating station. 

In case of unreserved tickets involving journey upto 200 kilometres, the tickets can be booked on the same day whereas tickets involving journey of more than 200 kilometres can be booked up to three days in advance excluding the day of journey. 

Premium trains with dynamic pricing have been introduced during the Holi and summer rush with shorter advance reservation periods of up to 15 days. 

Indian Railways have a route length of about 65,436 kilometres. On an average, about 23 million passengers commute across Indian Railways daily. The passenger traffic on different routes varies from season to season, day to day and train to train.

Sub: Time limit for Advance Reservation.

   It has been decided that w.e.f. 01.05.2013, the existing time limit for advance reservations by trains will be reduced from 120 days to 60 days (excluding the date of journey) as mentioned below:-

   i. With effect from 01.05.2013, the ARP will be of 60 days (excluding the day of journey) and bookings will be done accordingly. However, all the bookings done upto 30.04.2013 under the ARP of 120 days will remain intact.
