Orissa Congress MLA arrested for assaulting govt officer

Nabarangpur (Orissa), Oct 24 (PTI) A Congress legislator from Orissa was arrested today on charges of assaulting a government officer and ransacking his office, police said.

Bhujabal Majhi, MLA of Dabugam in Nabarangpur district, was arrested on the basis of an FIR lodged by Dhanurjay Hembram, block development officer of Kosagumuda block, accusing the MLA of assaulting him, Superintendent of Police Prafulla Barik said.

The legislator was believed to have been annoyed over omission of his name in the stone plaque for a meeting hall of a self-help group at Kotagam village in his constituency that was inaugurated by state's IT minister Ramesh Majhi yesterday.

Majhi, however, has alleged that the BDO had misbehaved with him.

Hembram alleged in his FIR that the MLA along with other Congress workers had barged into his official chamber.

They attacked him and beat him up before locking him inside his office chamber yesterday.
