Mamata Directs Railways to Provide Additional Travel Options in the Wake of Air India Strike




At the direction of the Minister of Railways Mamata Banerjee, Ministry of Railways has taken urgent special steps in providing additional travel options on Indian Railways for the traveling people in the country in the wake of strike by a section of employees of Air India.

Under these steps, additional coaches will be added in popular trains wherever operationally feasible to accommodate more people. Special ‘Help Booths’ are being set up at major airports across the country to provide information regarding available accommodation in trains to the stranded air passengers. Some additional special trains have also been planned on certain important sections.

A special Rajdhani type train 2951A/2952A is being run between heavy traffic New Delhi - Mumbai sector from today. This train will depart from Mumbai Central on Wednesday and Friday at 10.50 PM and will reach New Delhi next day at 6 PM. On return journey, the train will depart from New Delhi on Thursday and Sunday at 11.35 PM and will reach Mumbai Central next day at 8.10 PM. This train will have one first AC coach, six 2nd AC coaches and four 3rd AC coaches besides pantry car and power car. The train will have stoppages at Kota, Ratlam, Vadodara and Surat.

The frequency of 0163/0164 Pune-Secunderabad special summer holiday Shatabdi train has been increased from four days a week to five days a week in view of heavy air traffic on this route. The public will continue to be kept informed about these additional steps through Commercial and Public Relations Departments of respective Zonal Railways.
