Telangana Government employees get 43% hike in salaries

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao on Thursday announced a 43 per cent hike in salaries of government employees, praising and acknowledging their role in the Telangana agitation.

The 43 per cent fitment in the pay scales will be implemented retrospectively from June 2, 2014, the day on which Telangana officially became a separate state. The new salary would be paid from March. The arrears for the seven months will be paid in the March salary.

The arrears will also be paid to those who retired after June 2, along with pension.

Government employees in the Secretariat and elsewhere welcomed celebrated the news by bursting fire crackers and distributing sweet boxes. The hike will result in an expenditure of close to Rs 6,500 crore per annum for the government.

“This is the first pay revision for the employees after Telangana was formed and we have promised that once we form government we will hike salaries beyond the expectations of the employees. This is not like a gift; we appreciate and acknowledge the sacrifices government employees made during the Telangana agitation and they deserve this. They did not fear police or legal action and participated in the movement including the 42-day strike. The state owes it to the employees for their determination in continuing with the agitation,’’ the CM said.
