Govt nurses to suspend work

Some 600 nurses from Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector-32 and Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector-16, will suspend work for an hour on March 7. They would be taking the step to express resentment against their payscales not being on a par with those of central government employees and shortage of staff. The decision was taken at a general body meeting of Nursing Welfare Association held at GMCH on Thursday. 'We have been raising the issues of less pay and allowances and filling up of the posts. There is a need for 700 nurses while the number of sanctioned posts is only 403,' said Vijay Kumar, president of the association in GMCH. He added, 'We will be joined in this protest by the GMSH staff.'
