Government school teachers to get additional monetary benefits

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Tuesday announced additional monetary benefits for government school teachers following a representation made by their association seeking to remove anomalies in their pay scale and salary on a par with Central government employees.

A State government press release stated that a total of 2.73 lakh teachers would benefit from the hike.

It will cost the government Rs.160 crore per annum. The special allowance for the secondary grade teachers, whose pay scale is Rs.2,800, has been increased to Rs.750 from Rs.500. Since this will be given as personal pay, teachers will get Rs.1,088 in addition to their pay. This personal pay will be taken into account while calculating pay hike, dearness allowance (DA) and pension.

Special allowance

The special allowance for selection grade and special grade teachers, whose grade pay is Rs.4,300 and Rs.4,500 respectively, will continue to be Rs.500. Graduate teachers, post-graduate teachers, primary school headmasters and middle school headmasters will get additional Rs.200.

Headmasters of high schools will get Rs.750 as special allowance instead of Rs.500. This will result in Rs.1,088 increase in their monthly pay.

The grade pay of headmasters of higher secondary schools and district educational officers will be Rs.5,700 instead of Rs.5400.
