Shri Kapil Sibal Inagurates CSIR Technofest-2010.
Shri Kapil Sibal, the Union Minister for Human Resouce Development, Science and Technology and Earth science inaugurated CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research) Technofest-2010 here on Sunday. The 14 days long mega event, first ever in the history of CSIR has been organized as a part of India International Trade Fair (IITF).
The exhibition has been organised to showcase CSIR’s expertise in the field of Science & Technology through 15 theme pavilions. The theme pavilions are Technologies transferred, Technologies available for transfer/commercialization, Relevant knowledge base and expertise, Theme specific programmes for industries, Academicians & research, government officials and general public, Aerospace and Strategic sector, Chemicals and petrochemicals and Energy, Engineering infrastructure and Mining, Minerals and materials, Ecology and environment, Water and Leather, CSIR 800 and Agriculture and floriculture, Health care and food & nutrition, Nurturing human resource and entrepreneurship, History of CSIR and Role of CSIR in Nation building.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the country has achieved affordability and accessibility in important sectors like nutrition, high technology, petro chemical and engineering and the products, which were imported earlier at a heavy price, have now been produced with the help of CSIR at an affordable price. The Minister further said introduction of Vocational courses in school curriculum will provide more employment opportunities. Mr. Sibal also said that efforts are being made by CSIR for converting seawater into drinking water.
Over 100 industries presenting their partnership with CSIR will be participating in Technofest-2010 by showcasing technologies and products successfully commercialized in practice. The major thrust of the exhibition is on CSIR’s role in Science and innovation for transforming India. The thrust areas are Science &engineering leadership, Innovative technology solutions, End-to-End technologies in niche areas, Open innovation for inclusive growth, Nurturing talent in trans-disciplinary areas and Enabling scientific entrepreneurship.
