Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Union Minister of Labour & Employment inaugurated the modernized Employees State Insurance Corporation ESIC Model Hospital at Rajajinagar, Bangaluru (Karnataka) on Saturday 13.11.2010. This Hospital is the first ESIC Hospital where work of modernization and upgradation (first phase) has been completed and which is now state-of-art Hospital comparable to international standards for the ESI Beneficiaries. As a part of the initiative for providing the best medical facilities in ESIC Hospitals and to compete with private medical hospitals, ESI Corporation has started to upgrade and modernize its existing ESIC Hospitals, one of which is this state-of-the-art Hospital at Rajajinagar, Bangalore. This ISO certified ESIC Model Hospital will have a capacity of 500 beds. Shri K. Rahman Khan, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha presided the inaugural function. Shri B.N. Bachegowda, Minister of Labour, Govt. of Karnataka was the Guest of honour at the function.
In the first phase of the modernization of this Hospital, the wards for Orthopedic, Pediatrics, Surgery, Burn & Plastic, Urology and OBG have started functioning. Diagnostic facilities i.e. CT Scan/MRI, X-ray, Ultrasound, Pathology, Microbiology and Biochemistry have also been started. Besides this, 12 operation theatres with modern facilities will be made available for different kinds of surgeries within the hospital. This new building is centrally air-conditioned with latest medical equipments. The total estimated cost for modernization of this Model Hospital is Rs. 238 crore and the cost incurred on the modernization of the first phase is Rs. 110 crore. Medical Stores, MRD, Conference Hall for CMEs, Medical Education Unit and Library are also being established in this building. This Hospital will have all the state-of-the-art facilities comparable to any private corporate hospital in the country.
The inaugural ceremony had the august presence of Shri S. Suresh Kumar, Minister of Law, Justice, Human Rights, Urban Development, Govt. of Karnataka, Shri Chandra Kant Khaire, Member of Parliament and Member ESI Corporation, Smt. Motamma, Leader of Opposition, Legislative Assembly Karnataka, Shri Prabhat C. Chaturvedi, Secretary, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt. of India, Dr. C.S. Kedar, Director General ESIC, Shri Ramesh Zalki, Secretary, Labour, Govt. of Karnataka, Shri Narendar Babu, M.L.A., Shri S.K. Nataraj, Mayor, BBMP, and Shri M. Nagaraj, Leader of Opposition, BBMP.
The ESI Corporation is committed to work for the welfare of workers and improvement in their quality of life and for providing all possible social security to them. The ESI Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PGIMSR) at this ESIC Model Hospital have also come up after getting the permission from the Medical Council of India (MCI). Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors have been already appointed in eight specialties. The institute has now got 10 P.G. students i.e. 2 each in General Medicine, OBG, Biochemistry, Pathology and Microbiology. This Hospital will also have a full-fledged Medical College in near future for imparting medical education at the graduation level.
The Corporation ESIC now owns a huge infrastructure and provides benefit through 146 Hospitals, 42 Hospitals Annexes, 1388 ESI Dispensaries, 1678 Panel Clinics, 797 Branch/Pay Offices and 52 Regional/Sub-Regional/Divisional Offices.
