Senior citizens meet Sonia
New Delhi, Oct 25 (PTI) A delegation of the All India Senior Citizen's Confederation today met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and sought her intervention for welfare schemes related to the senior citizens of the country.
Led by Pradeep Mathur, Deputy leader of CLP in Uttar Pradesh, the delegation submitted a memorandum to Gandhi apprising her of the issues raised in the 10th annual conference of the confederation held at Vrindavan.
The memorandum asked for immediate steps to fully implement the existing national policy on older persons with budgetary support and not to postpone it.
It also sought health insurance for all, full implementation of the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, a minimum of 50 per cent concession in state bus and railway fares for all senior citizens and also a special savings scheme allowing at least 2 per cent higher interest.
